SHRAWAN MAAS AND LORD SHIVA'S BLESSINGS

Tridev or the tri gods BRAHMA-VISHNU-MAHESH have a significant place in Hindu mythology. Lord Shiva is one of them. Lord Shiva has guided devotees many times by performing "leelas". Lord Shiva is also famously known as Bholenath. According to a legend once a devotee called Bhasmasur worshipped Shiva with unmatchable devotion. Happy with his prayers, Shiva promised to grant his one wish. Little did he know that it will bring a threat on his own life.

According to mythology Shiva loves the month of Saavan or Shrawan. It’s something to think about that if Bholenath can grant Bhasmasur such powers after being pleased with his prayers then what is left which he can’t give to his devotees and that too during his favorite month. Shrawan Maas is also called Maasottam which means best month of the year and many Hindi writers have mentioned Shrawan Maas as Rituraaj or the king of all seasons. Just like the mother earth gets satisfied after miseries of summers, devotees also get over the miseries of their life in the month of Shrawan by worshipping Lord Shiva. Many devotees go on pilgrimage to collect the water of pious Ganga to practice Abhishek of Shivling.

Mondays are important and significant throughout the year but its significance increases in the month of Shrawan. Mythology says that monday is the day of moon. Lord Shiva is also called Chandrashekhar as the head of Shiva is the residence of moon and that’s why on Monday Shiva is worshipped. It is said that worshipping Shiva and observing a fast on Monday pleases Mahadev a lot and if it is a Shrawan Maas Somvaar it becomes more blissful.

Observing a fast on Monday of Shrawan Maas grants great results and blessings of Shiva. Especially unmarried women get expected married life by observing this fast.
Shrawan Maas Vrat Katha is as follows:

There was a businessman in a state. He had everything but still he was not happy since he did not have any children. He was an ardent Shiva devotee and observing a fast on Monday and lighting up a Diya was his regular practice. Watching his devotion Mata Parvati requested Shiva to grant him a child. Shiva accepted but told that the child would be lived only up to 16 years of age. Shiva told both things to the businessman in his dream and soon a beautiful child was born at his house. At the age of 12 years he was sent to Kashi to gain education. After some years at a states princess wedding the groom was dyslexic. The father of groom bribed the child and replaced him with his son. But the child disclosed it to the princess and went away. The child soon died after his age of 16 years was completed. But observing his father’s continuous devotion Parvati again forced her husband Shiva to grant him life and he was again living. Soon the king found the child and arranged the wedding of the child and the princess. And the whole family of businessman lived happily.
